Children in War Territory is a moving photographic exhibition which opened in March 2025 at the MigratieMuseumMigration in Brussels, inaugurated by European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib. The exhibition immerses visitors in the daily realities of children growing up under bombardment and instability in Ukraine, Gaza, and Syria—places where conflict continues to shape the most vulnerable lives. Featuring the work of photographers Areej Shaheen, Doaa Al-Baz, Fadi Badwan, Haneen Salem, Mohammad Asad, Mahmoud Abu Hamda, Rojin Ferho, and Franky Verdickt, the show offers an unflinching yet deeply human look at childhood in war zones. It also carries a symbolic weight in honoring the late photographer Areej Shaheen, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza in January 2025; her images, marked by sensitivity and strength, are presented in tribute to her vision and courage. Hosted in a museum dedicated to the diverse migration histories of Brussels, this exhibition serves as both a testimony and a reminder of resilience, loss, and shared humanity.
