CINEMAXIMILIAAN

brings newcomers and locals together through film and more

Cinemaximiliaan is a platform with and by newcomers. We started in 2015 with an open air cinema in an improvised camp at the Maximiliaan Park in Brussels, Belgium.

Our community quickly grew through the commitment of a vast network of volunteers, amongst them many newcomers.

Cinema Trottoir 2025

CINEMA TROTTOIR is our way of bringing the neighbourhood together—right on the pavement in front of Cassonade at Manchesterstraat in Molenbeek. We cook, we watch films, and we create space for conversations, encounters, and shared moments.

The festival celebrates openness and solidarity with newcomers in Belgium, offering an evening where food and film meet under the sky. And if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we simply continue indoors.

Pull up a chair, share a meal, and join us in keeping this community tradition alive.

PROJECT HOUSE

The Project House in Molenbeek is the beating heart of Cinemaximiliaan where volunteers and visitors stay over for and after events. It is here that people meet, share meals and work together on collaborations of artistic productions. It also houses the office of Cinemaximiliaan where the team, assisted by many newcomers, volunteers and interns, are working behind the screens. Cinemaximiliaan builds bridges for encounters and co-creation through which newcomers can continue their path in a new homeland.
