brings newcomers and locals together through film and more
Cinemaximiliaan is a platform with and by newcomers. We started in 2015 with an open air cinema in an improvised camp at the Maximiliaan Park in Brussels, Belgium.
Our community quickly grew through the commitment of a vast network of volunteers, amongst them many newcomers.
EVENTS
Cinemaximiliaan brings films in many remote asylum centers around Belgium on a regular basis, where there is a need for encounter and cultural exchange. Also, we organise film screenings with encounters and debates in private homes, in cinema’s and in cultural venues. Join us at our dinner table and participate in our Living Room workshops on cinema, photography, storytelling, performance and more. Everyone is welcome!
Cinema Trottoir 2026
🎬 PROGRAMME LAUNCH!
We’re excited to finally announce this year’s programme for Cinema Trottoir, our annual open-air film festival.
This year's programme is built around the people who inspire and shape our community: films by friends, a special collaboration with Fireplace Cinema, and a final screening of a Cinemaximiliaan production.
Each film will be screened in its original language, with French and Dutch subtitles or live dubbing in French and Arabic, making the festival as accessible as possible.
Join us every Saturday from 19:00 for a community dinner, followed by the film screening in the street at 21:00. After each screening, stay for a conversation with the film's director.
For our closing event, dinner starts at 18:00 before we head to La Grande Halle / De Grote Hal for a special screening at 20:00. We'll then return to Cinemaximiliaan for RAVESCREEN—a unique closing celebration where film and music come together.

PROJECT HOUSE
The Project House in Molenbeek is the beating heart of Cinemaximiliaan where volunteers and visitors stay over for and after events. It is here that people meet, share meals and work together on collaborations of artistic productions. It also houses the office of Cinemaximiliaan where the team, assisted by many newcomers, volunteers and interns, are working behind the screens. Cinemaximiliaan builds bridges for encounters and co-creation through which newcomers can continue their path in a new homeland.
